Why should I use bars?
There are so many reasons why you should make the switch to solid bars. Here are our top six reasons:
1. You can ditch the bottle
Its estimated 8 million tonnes (!) of plastic end up in the world’s oceans every year. A lot of this plastic are old skincare bottles. The solid bars don’t require plastic bottle packaging, so they are much better for the environment than their liquid counterparts. By purchasing a bar you will prevent 3 plastic bottles from being made.
2. The bars are very concentrated
The bars are 3 times more concentrated than traditional liquid lotions, so you can use less per application and they will last longer. With absolutely no hidden, artificial or synthetic chemicals, our skincare is free from fillers and water and anything that would dilute the nutrient-rich and skin-enhancing benefits of the plant-based ingredients we use.
3. Save water
Have you ever looked at the label on the back of your skincare bottle? Take a look at the ingredient list on any of your skincare products and you will see the majority of them list water as the first ingredient. Water makes up about 70 per cent of your usual lotions and creams, leaving very little room for the active, working ingredients like butters, clays, and other hero oils. Additionally, it takes water to produce the bottle.
For us, it didn't make sense to pay for water in your product, produce and package it in plastic bottles, and use harsh chemicals to preserve it, when there is water in your shower already. Therefore, Hawaii Skin Treats' bars are concentrated and use no plastic packaging. You add the water, not us.
4. Eco Friendly
The overall carbon footprint is less with bars. They are more lightweight and compact than their bottled counterparts, so they require less space during transport.
5 Great for Travel
Never again use the individual sized lotions at your hotel. Soild bars are great for travelling as they are:
- Small and lightweight
- TSA approved
- Spill free
5. They make your skin glow
We believe you can have it all: we want you to have an amazing skin, while being kind to the environment. Therefore, each of the natural ingredients we use has been chosen to perform a specific function for your skin.

Can I use your bars if I have oily skin?
Sometimes when we over-cleanse our skin and do not moisturize enough, the skin overcompensates by producing more oil and sebum leading to even oilier skin and clogged pores. Our facial oils are made with natural plant oils that will thoroughly moisturize your skin so that it can stop producing excess oil and find a balance.
What are the benefits to the skin of the ingredients you use on your bars?
We often get asked about the ingredients we use in our skin care product. As you know, we are committed to bringing you safe and effective products. Therefore, each product is carefully formulated with beneficial ingredients. Here is what we work with in our laboratory to create the most amazing and clean skin care.
We have categorized all the ingredients that we use in our skin care products into three groups: Base Oils, Butters and Waxes, and Clays.
1. Base Oils
Base oils are obtained from the fatty portion of a plant, such as the nut or seed. These oils have a rich array of fatty acids which helps our skin stay hydrated. They can also provides us with vitamins such as A, D, and E. These are the base oils we are using in our products and their therapeutic actions:
Almond Oil: Emollient, skin softening, boosts immune function of skin, anti-inflammatory, healing, and improves skin tone.
Apricot Kernel Oil: Anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antioxidant, emollient, wound healing, and scar softening.
Argan Oil: Emollient, essential fatty acids, wound healing, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and promotes healthy scar tissue.
Avocado Oil: Anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, wound healing, supports immune function of skin, regenerative, and softening.
Coconut Oil: Emollient, antimicrobial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-aging, skin softening and strengthening.
Jojoba Oil: Antibacterial, emollient, wound healing, antioxidant, balancing, softening, and soothing to irritations.
Olive Oil: Emollient, wound healing, cleansing, and anti-inflammatory.
Rosehip Seed Oil: Regenerative skincare, premature aging, reduces hyperpigmentation, reduces appearance of age spots, softens scar tissue, tissue regenerative, and wound healing.
Sunflower Oil: Emollient and anti-inflammatory.
2. Butters and Waxes
Butters are the fats extracted from the nuts, kernels, and seeds of plants. They are exceptional at softening the skin as they help "glue" our skin cells together and carry essential nutrients, like vitamins, antioxidants, and fatty acids, into our skin.
Waxes are great at building thickness and structure in products. They also allow water and water to come together. We use these minimally processed butters and waxes we put in our skin products:
Cocoa Butter: Antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, nourishing, soothing, hydrating, and moisturizing.
Mango Butter: Moisturizing, cell regenerative, nourishing, soothing, protects dry and damaged skin, and help shield against UV rays.
Shea Butter: Moisturizing and anti-inflammatory.
Beeswax: Antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and moisturizing.
Clays are minerals from the earth that are exceptional at absorbing excess oils and toxins from the skin. Because of their unique feature to gently detoxify, exfoliate, clean, and invigorate the skin, clays are often used in facial masks and scrubs.
Bentonite Clay: Detoxifying, absorbent, and effective in drawing out oils and toxins from the skin.
French Green Clay: Anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, cleansing, detoxifying, absorbent, tightens pores, stimulate blood flow, and effective in drawing out oils and toxins from the skin.
Rose Clay: Anti-inflammatory, detoxifying, exfoliant, tightens pores, reduces irritation, increases circulation, regenerates collagen, promotes new cell growth, and removes dead skin cells.
Are the bars traveling friendly?
With new restrictions on traveling with liquids, bars are a great TSA friendly alternative for those who want to fly with skincare in their carry on luggage.
Why do bars cut down on plastic waste?
Because they are a solid-type product, no plastic bottle is needed for storing skincare bars. Choosing to use a bar means that you can help reduce waste and eliminate the need for single-use plastics.
Shipping & Returns
What are your delivery charges and estimated delivery times?
We ship with USPS and the cost of shipping depends on the weight of the product. Shipping charges are calculated on checkout prior to your purchase. We offer free shipping for orders over $50. Since we are located somewhat remotely on Hawaii, shipping to Continental U.S. or Alaska usually takes 3-5 business days.
We guarantee to ship all items within 1-3 business days of your order being placed, excluding weekends and public holidays.
Is your packaging sustainable and recyclable/compostable?
We love nature and we are committed to minimizing our environmental footprint and choosing the most sustainable and eco-friendly packaging options.
Paper based Packaging
We use minimal and compostable packaging solutions. We have choosen to use paper packing products. Our bars are small, lightweight and fit very well in small cardboard boxes. We use paper as fillers. We believe every little action towards a more sustaibale future counts, so we use paper packing tape with a recyclable core.
All our packaging is plastic free and compostable. This means all our boxes, packaging material, and labels will degrade in the compost bin. You can also recycle them, although it's more eco-friendly to compost. To try composting - bury the packaging material in your garden. It will completely disappear within a few months.
Where do you ship?
We ship from our Hawaii warehouse to all countries that provide USPS tracked postal services.
Import tax and customs?
Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost. These charges are the buyer's responsibility.
Please check with your country's customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to buying.
What is your return policy?
Before you consider returning a product, we would like to provide a little bit information about the environmental impact of returns. The environmental impact of reverse shipping creates over 5 billion pounds of landfill waste annually. Our excessive ‘throw-away’ and return behaviour is a driving force behind the growing plastic epidemic, and it’s our behaviour towards plastic that needs to change. With that said, Hawaii Skin Treats is dedicated to bringing you an unparalleled shopping experience from start to finish! If you're not completely satisfied with a product for any reason, just contact us. We will do our best to find a solution.
If a product you have ordered is damaged or defective, let us know in writing within 30 days of purchase. We'll gladly offer a full refund or replacement. Why should I use natural skincare?
Our skin is the largest organ of the body. Apart from regulating our body temperature, acting as a barrier to protect our insides, and giving us the beautiful power of sensation, it also has the ability to absorb what is being applied to it. Some of the things we put on our skin makes it all the way into our bloodstream. Therefore, what you put on your skin is just as important as what you put in your body.
We consumers are making a shift towards more natural and organic beauty products. At all ages, we are becoming more aware of our own health and of living well and safely. We are becoming more conscious about what ingredients we apply to our skin and the effect the products we use have on our Earth. Not all synthetics are bad but the average woman puts on 168 chemicals every day onto her body, so it is good to carefully consider what you use on your skin.
At Hawaii Skin Treats we use natural and certified organic ingredients like butters, oils, waxes, and essential oils. This creates effective products that are free from hazardous chemicals, without compromising your beauty or the environment.
About Titanium Dioxide
What is titanium dioxide?
Titanium dioxide is a mineral-based white pigment used in a wide variety of products, including toothpaste and personal care products. We use Titanium Dioxide as a white colorant in our soaps.
Is titanium dioxide safe?
Titanium dioxide has a long history of safe use in the cosmetics and drugs industry for personal and oral care products as a FDA approved colorant. It is also approved for use in food as a colorant and also in food contact materials. Debate exists around the safety of titanium dioxide nanoparticles particularly when they are airborne. The titanium dioxide we use is bound to the soap, so the particles present are not airborne. Therefore, there is no inhalation risk in using our soaps that contain this ingredient.
